yep, thank Nathan!, glastrons are on top of my list.

Id REALLY like one of the old "speedster" ones. but that doesnt fit the family bill :)

First boat I was on a was gleaming yellow glitterpainted model my godfather had with a HUGE motor. no idea the name or anything. I just remember being like "WHOA" LOL I was 6 or so.

Then my buddy had one of those carlson flat bottom crazy boats, with a huge outboard on it. would do 70mph without breaking a sweat. Pucker Factor=100. that is a seriously scary(but fun scary) thing to do 70 on a boat thats only 4feet tall no windshield to speak of...one bad wake and youll be swimmin. lol anyways, Ive had an affinity for them since that.... recognizing the name/logo/style. I was a "little" underwhelmed at the model we saw at the boat show. We are kicking around buying a new boat, but the fit finish on the new one just wasnt what I expected...price good though. Still waiting to get a look at the jet model.....

When we bought ours, I had a few major criteria to meet for our first family boat.

newer than 2000
8 passenger -us plus sister's family(should have gone 9 to take mom too oops)
-10k $ (unsure if wed use it alot, I was wrong)
3.0 engine (ease of rebuild, and good for learning)
flat rear bench with sunpad. (big motor box to work in, and I just hate the "bump" and split and rear facing seats some of the other runabouts have-mostly wife's preference)
small enough to fit in garage.
oh, I have to have a fiberglass boat be blue and white. Aesthetic thing, not sure why. :)

so started shopping. Glastron was one of the ones with "VEC" hull. no wood floors. I had a bad memory of riding in a bayliner with a spongy floor. Found this one a couple hours away. It had its problems, but all were small. tach, small cracks, crappy radio.

so it was Glastron, Larson, four winns really. checkmate boats kick ass, but aren't really suited for novice boating family. That would be my mid life crisis boat lol. But ive already used that excuse to buy motorcycles and atv's. I don't have much interest in speed when my family is aboard.

cheers! well be out sunday AND monday!

ha cool!

+1 on the james bond thing. thats the style Id like to have. jump it off stuff. "hang on kids!"

My baby's home today from the marine tech.... new battery and all running tickety-boo.
So, I've just to reinstall the rear seat and then she goes up north to have the varnish/paint touched up. then a little more spit & polish mixed with elbow grease and we'll be really ready for the first Club run of the year June 14th.

nifty.

good to hear about the boat!

my season has begun! we had two good days on the muddy mississippi. found a new place (Ft MAdison) to launch. Small boat ride to a riverside community with a park and diner... water a bit cold and treacherous due to flooding to get in and ski or tube or anything though.

Earlier, We were talking about classic glastrons..when we stopped to eat I heard a really growly engine, looked out and saw a 30 foot spray coming out the back of one of those old glastron jets.... I LOVE them. Spoke to the guy as he was unloading. VERY cool machine had a 460 ford in it, I want one. lol

it was just like this: CVX 20 i think.

I would have purchased a cvx 20 for 200 dollars a year ago but I was an hour to late!

funny!

on our way to the memorial cemetary, there was an old waverunner sitting in a driveway for $125! I made myself turn around after I got gas a few blocks later, but the guy in th truck behind me was there when I got back, and was shaking the owners hand LOL.

125 bucks would be a great project for me and my son....junk or not.

oh well.....

At 1972, my wooden boat is "old". It's considered a "Classic" (1943 - 1975) as opposed to an "Historic" (up to 1918) or "Antique" (1919 - 1942) boat.

However, it's not as old as my "plastic" Donzi (1965) and it is a stern drive design as modern/current boats are. IMHO this is the best of all worlds as I get the beauty of a wood boat and all the joy of a classic while enjoying a comfortable ride, excellent handling and all the performance of modern/current boat.

I agree, I like to see the old displacement hulls pushing through a glass lake early/late in the day but, I'd never want to own one unless I had enough money to own a fleet useable boats first.

A really fun day touring Balsam Lake = 18 Antique and classic boats including 5 Greavette's, 4 Shepherds, a couple of Grews, Lakefield, Peterborough, Sidewinder, J-craft and an 18' hydroplane...

She was a little bouncy at the start but, the winds calmed and the sun came out to dry our clothes. Got the ol' girl up to just under 50mph once or twice :).

The Coboconk festival was great fun too. all in all a great start to the 2014 boating season.
