yep, thank Nathan!, glastrons are on top of my list.
Id REALLY like one of the old "speedster" ones. but that doesnt fit the family bill
First boat I was on a was gleaming yellow glitterpainted model my godfather had with a HUGE motor. no idea the name or anything. I just remember being like "WHOA" LOL I was 6 or so.
Then my buddy had one of those carlson flat bottom crazy boats, with a huge outboard on it. would do 70mph without breaking a sweat. Pucker Factor=100. that is a seriously scary(but fun scary) thing to do 70 on a boat thats only 4feet tall no windshield to speak of...one bad wake and youll be swimmin. lol anyways, Ive had an affinity for them since that.... recognizing the name/logo/style. I was a "little" underwhelmed at the model we saw at the boat show. We are kicking around buying a new boat, but the fit finish on the new one just wasnt what I expected...price good though. Still waiting to get a look at the jet model.....
When we bought ours, I had a few major criteria to meet for our first family boat.
newer than 2000
8 passenger -us plus sister's family(should have gone 9 to take mom too oops)
-10k $ (unsure if wed use it alot, I was wrong)
3.0 engine (ease of rebuild, and good for learning)
flat rear bench with sunpad. (big motor box to work in, and I just hate the "bump" and split and rear facing seats some of the other runabouts have-mostly wife's preference)
small enough to fit in garage.
oh, I have to have a fiberglass boat be blue and white. Aesthetic thing, not sure why.
so started shopping. Glastron was one of the ones with "VEC" hull. no wood floors. I had a bad memory of riding in a bayliner with a spongy floor. Found this one a couple hours away. It had its problems, but all were small. tach, small cracks, crappy radio.
so it was Glastron, Larson, four winns really. checkmate boats kick ass, but aren't really suited for novice boating family. That would be my mid life crisis boat lol. But ive already used that excuse to buy motorcycles and atv's. I don't have much interest in speed when my family is aboard.
cheers! well be out sunday AND monday!
