    Engine Replacement

do you have any pics of the boat. if the engines are accessible than it shouldn't be to bad, however, i they are midships in a salon it will be a big pain in the rear.

    Engine Melted

more than likely a worn impeller - water pressure from a hose is enough to circulate through the engine (about 60psi). as soon as it hits the water, then it has to work on it's own - that's when the fun begins. fix the impeller and then do a compression test and leakdown test on the engine to...

    NEED HELP

i have not played with efi to much either, backfiring can certainly be caused by bad timing, which i beleive is run through the ecm. it is possible that the ecm has gone south, however, in my experiance, other than when new - the ecms are very reliable. you may have to try and swap it out - or...

    NEED HELP

have you put a computer on it to see if you're getting any trouble codes? also make sure you have drained the fuel tank and the complete system - a little water goes a long way to screwing up a fuel system

    what oil should I use

you have 2 choices as far as oil goes. Mercury Marine High Performance Gear Lube, is an excellant product. it doesn't flow very well in cold weather which is the only thing i don't like about that product. personally i used Amsoil synthetic gear lube and have done so for a couple of years...

    Frozen steering Mercury outboard

isn't saltwater stuff fun? it still amazes me as to what corrosion can do to aluminum hopefully the rest of the repair is goes smoothly

    Frozen steering Mercury outboard

salt water is a killer - you have no choice but to get midevil on this thing. first the steering cable is cooked. cut the thing off and be done with it - hacksaw works fine for that. next, loosen off the steering nut where the cable enters the tilt tube. then remove the steering arm to the...

    Frozen steering Mercury outboard

i'm assuming a couple of things here 1. - you've cut the cable already near the tilt tube 2. - this is a saltwater motor i've never seen one that badly seized although i know it does happen. i'm thinking you are going to need some good heat. i believe the tilt tube is aluminum and the...

    Grew Challanger

yeah, it has nice lines, it would be even better if they had a bowrider version. we had 5 kids and 3 adults in it on saturday - it was a little cozy - good thing i'm on good terms with my girlfriend!

    Grew Challanger

so, time for a little update - no pics though - nothing has changed. this year there is a 250ss on it. Dave is still tweaking it - but so far he is getting 74 gps off the new engine. and seems to handle very well. i believe he is running a 29" prop on it. acceleration is awesome with that...
