are you sure it is steam and not just oil smoke? if the engines have not been in opperation for awhile the oil rings could be sticky or siezed or the valve seals could be dry and cracked. oil smoke from a boat may not always look blue due to the the fact that exhaust goes through the water...

it's not much different than changing an outboard impeller, just seperate the lower leg and you will see the water pump housing over the drive shaft. take note of what way the fins are laying so you put it back the same way. when you go for parts tell them you need a kit for a MR drive...

for most bimmi tops there are two bows, one longer bow that attaches through the rear cover and then to the gunnel and a smaller bow that is hinged from the aft one that leans forward through the cover and that will tighten it up.

best bet is to go and check out what compounds you will be using and then read the lable and see what it reccomends, slower is better because to fast of rpm's will burn the finish on your boat.

chris is right, gas fumes will settle to the lowest part of the boat, namely the bildge so make sure your vent is uncovered.

you can get a 302 from a mustang or a truck and it will be fine, just make sure you replace the frost plugs with brass ones and make sure you install a marine camshaft. as for the pistons, bearnings, ect quality automotive parts will work fine, just make sure you use a marine gasket kit.

i agree with chris, the 2.3 was even to small to make a good mooring.

the harness, trim pump, shift cables all stayed on the high side but i will still strip it all out and check it all anyways.

if you move the mast you will have to adjust the bunks as well, get a heavy scale and put it under the jack and adjust your trailer if need be.

it's a lot eaiser to change a remote filter than it is to stand on your head and do it.
