Since the Alpha SS is so hard to find (and expensive when you do) I have found a proceedure to shorten the upper case of an Alpha One (1st gen). It takes 3.25" out of the upper case ...

Looks like I found...
Around here CL is not really the greatest....
I have had good success with "Kijiji" but, figured there are eyes on this board that are in this area and might come across somthing. Many not listing boats this time of year.
Jet drives are not really good with deep V boats. The deeper the V the worse the jet.
An Alpha SS (short shaft) would be just what the doctor ordered...however IF you can find one they are $3000 used and some parts are NLA for them.
The MR is an older drive than the Alpha One. I'm pretty...
Which do you think is better... and why?
I'm starting from scratch on the new project and have chosen an Alpha. Bravo is considerably heavier and a Bravo 3 heavier again. The Volvos are just too pricey for me to get the new stuff (with the common transom cut out.
So, pros vs. cons please.
Wanted:
Donor boat with 4.3l v6 and alpha drive. Does not have to run but, a good engine block manditory. looking around $1,500 mark.... and not too far from Toronto.
Okay... I'm attached now. I think this little boat will do just fine.
(It fits in my garage! ... a first)
So, call off the search!
Oh, and we think it's a 1965.
Yes. But, there were no "wooden Donzis".
Shepherd was an established business that made a very good and well respected product. They made everything from small outboard runabouts to large cruisers.
When Fiberglass construction came along, they made a license agreement to produce Donzi Ski...
Thanks Chris,
Lots of wooden Shepherds around....
Quite a few 16' Ski Sporter Donzi-Shepherds were made. Many people are unaware their Donzi was made in St.Catharines and assume it was made in Florida. S-Donzis were sold in Canada and the North -Eastern United States.
The early Florida, US...
Thanks Nathan,
I have already been at this site and am in contact with it's author (Mr. Shepherds grandson). They have almost nothing on the Donzi chapter and mostly concentrate on the woodies...
Way back in 1965 Shepherd boats of Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario started to build 16' Donzi Ski Sporter boats under license from a fledgeling company called Donzi Marine of Miami , Florida.
I'm looking for any information (or clues that might lead to information) on any of this operation...
Well, I must be catching up.....
I got the 16SS covered up yesterday then "low and behold" another inch of the white stuff last night. They are calling for a few more this afternoon.
You woul think in CANADA that I'd be better prepared for this....but, we don't usually get snow that "sticks"...
No, not intentionally a shot at you Nathan.... For some reason I was thinking Peels was in Texas...and complaining about snow. Then I saw the IOWA State flag and had to edit... :)
If you're from Iowa you're allowed to complain about snow.
How far north are you? North of Amarillo?
Snow in Texas.... not really?
Oh, now I see....You're not in Texas...You're in Corn country!
I used to visit Muscatine frequently. They get some snow there.
Didn't get the "Seanzi" away in time!!!
15cm (6') of snow on Saturday, didn't shovel till Sunday. Po'd because we don't really get much snow till mid/late Dec....
Had to scoop out of the boat as I was waiting to move the boat before installing the tarp.
Now I have to find an indoor haven to...

A little "homr innovation" but I'm told not uncommon in europe.
Not your "run of the mill" mill.
BTW, I soooooooo want one of these. even if it will only make 300 or so HP.
$19,700 for a V8/Bravo drive.... Just Nuts!
This is why we need manufacturers for the "regular folk".
BTW, Diesel sounds good but, try get it at the local marina on a small lake somewhere....
