When at home do you have the bow of the boat all the way down or close to it using the trailer jack so that you can lower the drive all the way down?
If so then your float bowl adjustment may be off a little bit while the bow is up on an angle at the launch ramp and there may not be enough...

I found this on a different forum I play on, and thought I should share this crazy story with all of you here at Endless Boating as well, especially you Dave. ;)
Chris you should consider posting this on your other sites as well.:poke:
Stay safe...
It looks to be on the front side, in the center just under the fuel float bowl assembly, It's down low and it's screwed into the lower throttle body assembly.
The screw will have spring on it.
It looks like the adjustments will mainly be between 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 turns out. Start out with 1 1/4...
It might be pretty hard to make this work because sometimes the manufacturers of the OEM controllers will use different styles of internel hardware and design from each other which would require new shift cables, And that could be hard to find to make work because the engine manufacturers also...
I agree, I know its a pain to take down and put back up, But you will be saving the canvases from having some serious damage.
And that canvas is very expensive if you had to replace it.:(
I have found it in the mercury service manual for you.
The service manual part number for your engine from mercury is 90-136452, You should seriously consider ordering a mercury service manual, Either online someplace or through a mercury dealer in your area using that part number, The manual...

Would you happen to have your Engine and sterndrive serial numbers handy? And if not do you have the year of your engine and sterndrive?
I thought you guys would like to see what this guys dad had lying around in his back yard for awhile, He said It doesn't run, And the last time it was registered was 1966!
Or here is a place you can find a new one.

The gap is set to 0.016", But contact "gap" is an estimate only of proper dwell.
If you could get a hold of a dwell meter, Then you can set these engines up to run correctly by setting dwell angle.
Volvo Penta refers to this as "Cam Angle"... But this is basically a dwell of...
Hopefully there are some stickers on the engine that will give you some basic information about what size engine you really do have.
What size boat is it???
Normally the Bayliners with the Volvo 4-cylinders back then came with a volvo AQ 125 A or B engine with a 270 volvo sterndrive.
If...

I believe one of these manuals may get you close enough to help you out with a starting point.
You will need to join up with 4shared, And the other one also, But they are free to join, And they don't bug you with junk mail that I know of.:thumb::D
Throttle and Shift controls for all...
I believe your information will be inside this link somewhere, But to be 100% right we will need your engine serial number.
If you know your engine serial number just hover your mouse arrow cursor over your engine size and find the engine serial number that is within your serial number range...
Here is a link to your engine parts, Just make sure your engine serial number falls within the serial number range in the link, to help ensure you find the correct parts for your engine, Good luck to you with getting it to run once again.:cheers...
Even though this merc part number is no longer available from mercruiser, I think it would have been kind of like what you where looking for. (854009A1)
Below is a bunch of good links that could help you out someday.
Check out the Digital Contact Tachometer from harbor freight.
