confused thanks for all you guys for giving all the imput

Well the first thing I would do is check the compression. That's the best and first place to start at with any trouble shooting. If the compression is good, then I would look towards a possible ignition issue or also at a fuel delivery issue. As far as what they should do for you, I...

    Crab trapped!

Sounded like fun time until the crab line showed up! :brickwall: What year is this engine? Some older models of outboards had what was referred to as a "shear pin". Essentially what a shear pin did and was, was it was a sacraficial metal pin, then would break when your prop encountered an...

confused thanks for all you guys for giving all the imput

Hi poisoness, I assume you have brought the issues you're having to the attention of the marina you bought it at? Assuming you have, what do they have to say? I don't recall what kind of boat this is, but with smaller runabouts, it's not totally uncommon for a boat to take a bit to get on...

Has the economy taken the wind out of your sails?

I'm glad to hear you're hanging in. :) I think, or at least hope things are starting to turn around now. So hopefully better times are just around the corner. :) I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing about your next ride when things improve! :thumb: -Chris

    1975 Grew ss-204

I would think there should still be a capacity plate mounted somewhere. It might be on the transom, or it might be inside. That plate might also help you as it might have a HIN or serial number too. Essentially back in the mid 70's it became the standard for all manufacturers to start stamping...

    1975 Grew ss-204

Did you check to see if it's stamped into the hull, on the back right hand side below the rub rail? 1975 was right around the time when manufacturers started stamping HIN into the hulls. It might be a year or two early though... :) -Chris

    poisoness

Gotcha. It could be a lot of things that would cause it not to rev right up. It could be a dirty carb, an ignition issue, bad gas or a whole bunch of other things too. -Chris

    poisoness

Hi poisoness, Welcome aboard - nice to have you with us. Did you get any explanation as to why the rebuld is necessary? Do you have low compression on one cylinder or multi-cylinders? -Chris

    need important advice on stain

Cool! :) Welcome aboard - nice to have you with us. :thumb: There are different ways to go stain wise, but one thing you might want to consider if you want a really nice finish is using analine dyes instead of just stain. Dyes have very little pigment unlike regular consumer type stains, so...

    ski or board?

If you go to any decent ski and wakeboard shop, they can probably give you good advice as well. Companies like Connelly usually have decent combo sets. Here's a link to one set. http://www.connellyskis.com/connelly-combo-pair-cayman.php Just remember that wider skis are always easier...

    can i make it work

Why not just look for a good used set of proper controls on eBay? It might be easier then messing around. It's usually the cables themselves where the value is. The control boxes are usually fetched pretty cheaply. -Chris

    FULL CANVAS

Myself, I always retract the roof or remove the cover. I find even with full mooring covers, the wind whips them around and it leaves marks. -Chris

    idle mixture proublems

What does the manual say? Usually what they say is something like this... Turn the screw all the way in until it seats itself, then back it out a certain number of turns and then make fine adjustments until the motor runs smoothly. -Chris
