the end is near.... maybe

This year (2014) the Antique and Classic Boat Society (ACBS) have made a distinct change in their rules for fiberglass boats. This weekend, at the center of wood boats in North America (Clayton NY), a fiberglass Chris Craft XK19 has just won "best of show" at this, most prestigious antique boat show. Earlier in the year a fiberglass Fino, took the honours at another large show.

Is this the beginning of a trend? Does it mark the beginning of the end for wooden boats destined to be replaced in the collector arena as they were in the contemporary boat market?

One can only speculate...

I believe that they both have their place. I know a few people that do not like the wooden boat look. they think the fiberglass boats look better. I like both of them and at some point they will all be antiques!

That is sort of the point. NOW anything 25 years or older (wood or fiberglass) is considered a classic.
