What are some of the areas for boating in SoCal Inland Empire?
Do many people use their boat for ocean boating here?
I am in the SoCal Inland Empire. I want to get a boat for coastal ocean fishing. Is this practical? How large a boat does one need for this?
Can a Dodge Grand Caravan tow a large enough boat for coastal water fishing ? It is 3.3 liter V6.

Then if you want to do the family thing we have lake perris, Then in the mountains we have lake silverwood but that is kind of a hard drive to get to off the i 15, also big bear lake, Then out off i 5 about 90 miles from here we have lake castaic and then a little more down the interstate 5 on the left side is Lake Pymarid they are nice lakes. But most people go to the river area, Like lake havasu, or Mojave. Then once you get the hang of boating then you will feel better about the ocean. Going out of long beach is normaly the best and easyst area to go out of because you can stay in side the brake water line and cruise along and see the big ships and stuff if the weather is not good that day. Then if you head out from the queen mary Catalina island is about 25 miles over at about 180 degree heading on the compass. but you might want to get a GPS unit and get use to using that also just to be safe. I will say if you go by compass then while you are out there you should head out and stay on one heading and try not to do any turns while out there, that way you will know what heading to come back home on. a good example would be if you go out on a south 185 degree heading you would come back on a north 5 degree heading and be safe and not lost. And you will want a marine raido for sure just in case. the cost garud marine operators have a system that if you hold the key down long enough they can trace you and find you out on the water. With the van you have you are kind of limited to what you can tow, and with the ocean the saying is the bigger the better, But a lot of guy's will run out there in 19-21ft boats and be ok on most days if it is nice out there. The thing to look for in a boat for out there is a vee bottom boat with as big as free board as you can to help you feel safe and stay as dry as you can from the waves and the swells that could get kind of big out there. Free board is the hight of the side of the boat, from the bottom up to the top deck making the inside of the boat deep. And you MIGHT be able to tow a 19-21 foot light wait boat. but you will need to check in to that with a car dealer. Also you might want to start going to boat shows and talk to some of the venders out there to help you with some stuff to get some ideas, Or if you have a friend that has run the ocean then it would be a good idea to take them out with you or you go out with them just to get use to it.
