Newbie needs advice

I am a newbie to boating. I am currently looking to purchase a bowrider for fishing and tubing for 5-6 people. I need to know what to look for in a mid to late 80's or 90's bow rider. What is better or easier to maintain - an I/O or outboard? What do I look for in each motor? I currently have a 14' jon boat with a tiller for fishing (way too small). I want to get my wife involved in something family oriented and fun, as well as allowing my son and friends to go fishing in Northern Wisconsin. Any advice anyone cangive would help a newbie make a good first purchase. Thanx.

Welcome aboard Cheftaz. :)

Thanks for joining up, nice to have you here. :thumb:

There are pros and cons to both I/O's and outboards.

Do you like to waterski as well? Do you like to do your own maintenance? Do you like to boat early or late in the season in cold weather climates?

Well I personally like tri-hulls and deck boats but if I was not sure what kind of boat I wanted I would rent once or twice a month (different boats) and ask other boaters or if you have friends that have different boats bottom line is get in as many boats as you can,oh and I like the outboards easy to work on hope that helps

Grate advice from eaglejim. Rent or just walk down the dock and ask people.
If you are tubing or skiing alot. there is nothing like a swim platform and
walk-through transom,"no outboards". O ya one more thing. What if you have
to walk to the back to net that monster walleye??

Good luck. - Christopher
