The ongoing political stalemate in Washington has pushed the Coast Guard into its worst budget crisis in more than two decades, the service’s highest-ranking officer said earlier this year during his annual State of the Coast Guard address.

You wonder why the CG cannot amalgamate with the Navy... It may broaden the Navy mandate however, by eliminating much of the top end CG administration and restructuring you would have a more efficient organization with a wider range of operations.

Restructuring is not new to the business community nowadays. We should be considering the same for government agencies where applicable. This should be looked at in Canada too.
