Bilge area cleaning

I am wanting to clean out the area around the bilge pump. I don't want to damage the pump itself.

I am considering using some Simple Green. I thought about some dish soap. I figured that bleach would NOT be a good thing.

Ideas ??

Many of the bilge pumps can be removed fairly easily as they attach to a mounting bracket. If yours is that type, that should allow you to move it off to the side for easier cleaning.

As for what to use for cleaning, there are typically bilge cleaners you can buy that work pretty well. The ones I've used typically have a degreaser component to them that helps remove any oily stuff that's built up.

I use wesley's white wall cleaner. I also always squirt before I go out some dawn dish soap in the bottom so when I do get water in the boat it cleans as you ride. :bigthumb:

A a hint for th OB guys squirt a little dawn in the back where your engine is mounted and stick 1 paper towel back their and that will keep it looking good. All the 2 stroke oil sticks to the paper towel.

Keep in mind there are some bio-friendly options as well, if that's an important factor for you.

Lots of soaps etc. have phospate in them which isn't too great for your lake.
