84 Chris craft 281 Help

I am kicking around buying a 84 Chris Craft 281 with 2 small blocks. We took it for a ride and the curent owner said they did nont run it much they just hung out in the marina. The boat felt a bit slugish and could not get it to plane out. should I worry or does it just need to be ran?.

There is alot of possiblities but the motor are a lot like a car engine. if they sounds fine but was just slugish it could just need the carbs cleaned and a tune up.
