The superb performance of the U.S. stock market continues to offer optimism that the so-called “wealth effect” could continue to boost boat sales in 2013.

I really hope so, things have been pretty grim for some time now. Here in Wichita we've lost several dealers in the past few years, I think we are down to only two or three left now.

The last boat show I went to had some of the sales guys cautiously optimistic. Me, not so much due simply to the fact that boat prices are quite frankly, staggering. New tournament ski boats will easily go above $100K. A nice 26' Regal, Cobalt, or Crownline with big power lists for $130K or more. In my opinion, the manufacturers are pricing themselves into extinction.

I don't know about any "wealth effect" as I got laid off 2 years ago and, at 52 to stay productive I had to start my own company....

It'll be 10 years to get back to where I was and then time to retire. I just see the rich getting richer and the middle class dissapearing.

My old 1972 boat will get what she needs but, I have made an exit from every other hobby I had.
