    Project "PROTEUS"

I did bring the Kavalk home. Just long enough to prep it for a dry storage. I pulled off all the old rotten wood, cleaned out the moldy interior and pulled out most of the waterlogged foam from under the floor. Turns out the floor was rotten too as were the stringers so, this just became a much...

    Project THUNDERSTRUCK

Was really busy this season so, I didn't get to the formula until late. However, I managed 8 courses of glass on the transom, removed the false transom, cut & shaped the marine ply core and have her all ready to be glassed in when it's warm enough. You can see some of the progress here...

    Project "PROTEUS"

Well, with a classic wooden runabout and a 1964 Formula Jr. project boat I need another boat like a hole in the head. I really don't need another project boat but, here I sit after just purchasing a 19' KAVALK project. This one is Canadian made with a glass hull topped with a wooden deck...

    Project THUNDERSTRUCK

Well, the weather didn't hold out in October. I got the false transom attached but, it was just too cold to fiberglass. So, I packed it in for the year. However, February had a great thaw and I took the opportunity to get some grinding done on the inside of the hull. The factory lay-up is very...

    Formula Marine

another view of the Jr..... The Formula Jr. was sold along with the Formula 233 in late 63/early 64. From the Miami News by Miami News Outdoors Editor Jim Hardie - When Aronow decided to sell Formula to Dick Genth of Thunderbird boats, the Jr was a big part of that deal. The sale was closed on...

    Formula Marine

In the beginning, there was Formula..... When Donald Joel Aronow, landed in Miami in 1961 after retiring from his construction business in New Jersey, he became fascinated with the local racing crowd, then dominated by Dick Bertram. Don wanted a piece of this action, so he created a company...

    Formula Marine

So what was this magnet that caused such a stir? She was The Cigarette, a Formula 233 that was the debut fiberglass boat from Don Aronow’s first company, Formula Boats. Aronow, a wealthy real estate developer, had retired to Florida as a 33-year-old millionaire, where he was bitten by the...

    Formula Marine

I bought a 1965 Formula Jr. project boat. It has spent the past 30 years under a Banyan tree in Key Largo Florida and I rescued it in the fall of 2016. (Chased all the way home by hurricane Hermine). It requires a complete and total restoration/renovation as not one fibre of wood is not...

    Identify this classic.

Well, it sure looks like a Fabuglas model. It is definitely the right shape. Is there no paperwork associated with this boat? Have you looked in the gel for "ghost" shadows of the Fabuglas decals or nameplate? No builders tags anywhere? All things being equal, I'd say this boat is a...

    Identify this classic.

It sure looks like a Fabuglas with that distinct front deck. Probably earlier sixties rather than later though. Too bad you cant see the dash.

    Advice on outboards

You might also consider parts and service in your area. Around where I am, Merc is the motor of choice as service and parts are seemingly everywhere... I'd have to look hard to find a Johnson dealer. Obviously, I'm a Merc guy :)

    Carburetor floods

Did you put a new/rebuilt carb on it yet? Sometimes when people are in a hurry to winterize they don't put fuel stabilizer in before they run the boat to fog it. (they may just put it in the fuel tank afterwards or, not run it long enough). The old gas congeals and gums up the bowls, floats...
