Put the new cables in last night. It was a bit of work as I had to take out the rear and driver seats to remove panels in order to get access to the control box. All seems to have gone well and I'll have 'er in the water tomorrow morning!

    Hi There

That boat is awesome! Back in '74, my friends family had that exact boat (even the same colour) brand new. It was the first performance boat I ever rode in. It's great to see a survivor.

    experiance with spark plugs

I've been an NGK guy since my days with high performance snowmobiles in the late 70's early 80's... However, I used AC plugs in the most recent build (no NGK available when I needed them) and have been quite happy. last Chump-ions I used were in a 1976 Nova 305 that ran like cr*p. ...in...

Well, at least you have narrowed it down to something ignition related. Time for test lights, multimeters and a thick proceedure book. I hate electrical gremlins as they can be so hard to find (sometimes intermittent) and time consuming....which also means wallet consuming. Best of luck. and...

    Black art of prop selection

For the sake of finishing this thread...(future readers) My engine dyno'd just under 240HP. So, I chose a 1:47 ratio for my stern drive (over the 1:84 most 4.3s run). This made a huge difference in prop selection. I went with a 19p High Five and got a great holeshot where the boat jumps out...

    need help with prop selection

Ive done a lot of homework on this subjuct.... WoT on the Merc IL6 165 is 4,300 RPM. Pitch is the main thing to look at. You want to match your pitch to achieve WOT with a light load (1/4 tank fuel, no gear, no extra passengers, etc.) it's okay to go a little above the max RPM in this...

Sorry to hear the bad luck. That is very difficult to diagnose.... I'd probably sit in the boat with a beer (or two) and stare at everything until I saw something out of place.... maybe look to see if you have kinked the control cables...?
