Another consideration is winterizing and maintenance. :) A lot of people around our lake can use their outboards later into the boating season as there are less issues with freezing versus inboards. In the end as Sean said, they're both good each has it's pros and cons, so you just have to...

    Fuel Stabilizer

I usually look at the bottles and see how much they spec. Some small bottles require very little and some big bottles that seem cheaper spec that you use more. Typically over the last few years I've bought the STP one and haven't had any issues. I usually do a double dose. :) -Chris

    October

1986 Wellcraft 23 foot Nova XL

Welcome aboard. :) I know on my boat, the stereo will drain the battery after a week or two as it draws power for the clock etc. I put a disconnect switch on mine so that doesn't happen. -Chris

I enjoyed my Grew for many years. It's too bad they're gone now. But many great brands have unfortunately disappeared over the past ten years or so. :( -Chris

Maybe you can pick up a cheap one as a toy. A nice Playmate might be easy to justify and explain....as in a Checkmate Playmate. :D -Chris
