    need important advice on stain

If your going to glass the boat, there are studies which were conducted by Gougeon Brothers in BayCity, Michigan as to how resins and stains react. If I remember correctly oil base stains such as minwas do not allow the resin to penitrate and adhere to the wood as it should and will allow...

Hey Chuck, thats was one first time out. Yes, I'm in Michigan. Does your boat still have the original manufactures plate at the back transome, port side under the transom support? I would be interested in seeing what is stamped on it. Sounds like you have done a lot of work tot he boat...

A few clues: 1. Aniline dye has to be placed on fresh wood for it to penitrate in to the wood to create the affect of the pronouced wood grain. If the wood was prefinished it would have sealed the pores of the wood and not allow it to penetrate. Even if stripped you would not be able to...

    1946 Clyde Boat

Hey Chris, anyway to change the name of the thread to 1946 Clyde since the hull number is 610-46? Thanks for the gallery I posted a hand full of shots and comments. The build is going well so far but taking our time to do it right.

Okay where to begin. The stain is not a stain. This is an aniline dye. You can tell this by the pronounced grain in the wood. Also the deck was replaced at some time. The deck should be a quarter sawn sapele mahogony and not what appears to be either douglas fir or birch on your boat. I...

Have a handful of motors to pick from. My father in law has the original merc which is basically parts at this point but he is hoping to put a 66hp Scott Atwater on it that he has and runs. Not certain of it's year but by the style of the housing looks to be fitting for the boat. The boat was...
