Hello all

What is the proper name for the unit that sends info to the Speed gauge?
That is the unit on the outside of the boat.

Hi Ray,

Do you mean the part you mount on your transom?

If so, it's called a "speedometer pickup".

Some outboards like Mercs, have pickups built into them, so you just have to join a hose.

The other way you can go is the a GPS speedo which in the end is more accurate and you don't have to mount a pickup on your transom. :)

I think I will get a new one, the one on the boat looks old. They are inexpensive, app 20 bucks.

Just make sure you seal up the screw holes good with sealent so that they don't leak.
