OUTBOARD MOTOR COVER

Heat/age has damaged the inside sponge of my outboard motor cover to the point it was flaking and being sucked into the carbs. I totally removed the foam padding. Should I replace the padding or leave it bare?

I think the foam is mostly there for sound and noise reduction purposes.

What kinda shape is the cowel in otherwise?

There are usually lots of good cowels that pop up on eBay, if you want to replace it.
