New Checkmate Owner here

Hello,

I've been on the Checkmate site for a number of years and owned two checkmates. I'm now seriously considering a non-checkmate boat so I thought I'd (finally) take Chris's advice and spend some time over here.

I'm looking at a Stingray 696 (this is a 23' BR) with a 454 mag in it. If anyone has any advice regarding Stingray boats in general, please let me know.

Thanks,
Anthony

Thanks for popping in and joining up Anthony - it's nice to have you aboard over here as well.

We actually took a few pics of a Stingray or two at the Toronto Boat Show as I recall. I'll dig around and see where they are and try to get them posted for you in the next few days. :)

Thanks Chris,

I feel a little oldman-ish, selling the checkmate for a deeper, slower, less unique boat, but I'm right in the beginning of the family boating thing and it will suit us better. Plus a 23' stingray with a 454 mag isn't exactly a dog.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to meeting some new people and getting some other points of view.

I remember a number of years back, there was a guy who was on another forum (can't remember which one to be honest) who owned a Stingray. He was claiming his top end numbers sorta "matter-of-factly" and a number of the local forum "experts" were basically calling him out as being full of it. The guy basically denied that he was puffing up his numbers and more or less claimed to be reporting honest numbers.

The thread went on for quite a bit and in the end, the guy proved them all wrong. Many of the naysayers were quite surprised and a few even vanished into thin air. :D

From what I've read, Stingray make a pretty efficient hull and they're surprisingly quick. :thumb:

I think you'll be well served by one and I'm looking forward to seeing and reading how you make out with it. :)

Thanks Chris,

I've got to pick it up first and although the seller and I agreed to a price and roughly a time to pick it up (a few weeks out), I haven't heard from him since Friday. I'm sure it will be fine. Just excited. In MI we have alot of big inland lakes (10000+ acres) that my current boat was safe on, but not comfortable.

I'll keep you posted.

Also - does my supporting member status on the CM site transfer over to this site too? Just curious.

Stingray has been around for some time and have weathered the economy as for a dog/build that's the fun of boating. A stabbing cabin used in the family senerio is great if not necessary. Our dog did not like the sun. I still hurt from the day I sold a Mach 1 cuddy i/o it was a dog 140 chevy ironduke engine. 32mph but 3700 hrs of fun and abuse. 14 plus miles off shore catching big fish. I now have a small checkmate because of storage and I am too old to get pounded. Good luck with the purchase and Chris I too remember the thread you speak of and 92 was achieved if not mistaken. :DRick
