I was told by Gen-Mar/LARSON's warranty guy, that my boat warranty would begin, at the time the dealership took possession of the boat. NOT when I bought it !!!!!!!!

My boset on the lot for almost a year, PRIOR to my purchasing it. I think that is W R O N G ! ! ! ! ! ! I'm considering a attorney for advise. :pissed:

That sucks. I've never heard of a warranty like that. Oh sorry your coffee maker warranty expired before you bought it from the store! :brickwall:

Not sure if you know, but Genmar have file chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

So I'm not sure how that will effect your warranty, hopefully it won't and they'll still be covering owners.

No offense intended Chris, but re-read the above post. My dealer, says, "they will cover warranty work." We will see.

No offense taken. :)

I was more wondering about what will happen with Genmar warranties in general. Many hulls have long warranties on them, as in five or ten years. The motors and drives are usually covered by the motor manufacturers like Merc or Volvo Penta.

I would think Genmar will honour the hull warranties, but they filed for chapter 11 so who knows?

I know of a boat company that sold out and and would not warranty the boats that were sold before the buy out.

Yup. ;)

I think Genmar will honour the warranties though, but that's just a guess.

I find it kinda odd that the warranty would start when the boat hit the dealers lot though. Typically with most things the warranty period starts when an item goes into service.

I went and poked around Genmar and Larson's website but it was long on promises and short on fine print.

It would be interesting to see what the fine print says. ;)

Norrmaly the manufacturer's would and also under contract ask the dealers to uncover the boat and walk thru them either as soon as the boat's get to the store by truck or with in a certin amount of time to find and fix and repair all the transort damage and any warranty stuff they could find to the boat ASAP. But the problem with that is now the boat will more then likely need to sit out side up untill sold or enough room to open up in the show room, And in that time the boat will get real dirty inside the boat and also the sun might start to fade the color outside. So most dealers want to leve it covered till they have room to do what ever they are going to with it. And normaly some bigger manufacturer's under stand this, And let most thing's slide and the little ones will not in some cases untill the owener of the boat and the owner of the dealer starts to say hay let's take care of this boat, And this would be case by case. Now with the hard times the manufacturer's are looking at all this different and trying to stay within the dealers contrack to save money in some areas. So now it might be up to the dealers to help out their coustmers on certin things. Most manufacturer's always cover the boat from day one new to the boat owner but not all of them on certin things, Then it would be up to the dealer to take care of it in any way they can for you. What is wrong with your boat?

I read somewhere that a company by the name "Brunwick" out of New York have taken over some of Genmars crafts. I have a Crestliner and I do believe that this is just one of the crafts.

Brunswick is the parent company of Mercury Marine.

They also own a bunch of other boat companies. :)
