1989 - EVINRUDE V8 World Record Video 176.556mph

The Fastest Outboard Motor EVER is an EVINRUDE V8.

This is the Video of the preparation & the setting of the record in 1989.
What makes this world record unique is that the attempt has strict rules. The course is 3 kilometers in total.

The 1st kilometer is acceleration. The boat has to accelerate to full speed in 1 kilo. Nitrous Oxide was used to get it up to speed.
The 2nd kilometer is the timing. The boat is timed through the 2nd kilo. No nitrous was used here.
The 3rd kilometer is deceleration & return to the pits for refueling & check then return to do it from the other end within 1 hour of the 1st run.
The 2 runs were then averaged for the final speed.

The motor was running at about 9000rpm. The prop was running at about 10,000rpm
The motor was set straight ahead and the 3 point hydro was steered by 2 rudders.
This boat did it probably dozens of times which speaks highly off the incredible stamina of this V8. It was running on Methanol.

The hydro was going for the world record of 205mph at that time (1989). Unfortunatey during one of the runs it hit a water fowl which tore of one of the rudders & the resulting damage only allowed the rig to set the record at 176.556mph.

Apparently it had been clocked at up to 190mph on at least one run!!

This video is only on selected sites on the web. It is NOT on YouTube etc.
