I know , been kind of a wheeler /dealer all my life and you never know what you will get when its used. Then if you get it rebuilt, if they do a good job???? Would really like to get a good engine and rebuild it myself (and hopefully not make a mistake).

Thanks , its that ( pretty reliable ) that gets me .I guess I will have to do some more research on the weights, any mechanical issues ,inherent problems with specific years and take it from there. New is very expensive your right .

Thanks ,I like the idea of an older engine too . Plus on a smaller boat like this every pound counts. Just that reliabily thing (old electrical systems) seems to dog me .

So how reliable are the older/lighter Mrec V6's ? Can they be rebuilt to as good as new reliabilty ? Or were they that good as new ?

The older V6 Mercs seem to be lighter to put on my rebuilt Hydrostream Viper but I want light but also total reliability .Go with heavier new,rebuilt old ......????????
