Also check the fuel lines make sure they are not deterorating this will cause the carbs to clog and this is caused by the ethonol in the gas. If you grab and rub the gas lines see if it leaves your hands black that is a sign that they need replacing. Also you could have junk in the carb bowls...

Has the economy taken the wind out of your sails?

I moved to Fl where you can boat 11 1/2 months a year but money is tight and frequency of use has gone down and ethonol has not helped in the upkeep and problems. Now we have rec gas here at 90 octane no ethonol but 4.00 a gallon. Rick

Chris a good friend of mine on the eastern shore of Va has a warehouse full of whirlwind wood boats with original power. Mt Dora gets bigger and bigger every year and I think they moved it. Also alot of vintage racers run there and there are vintage races set up around the country. Wood=Work Rick

Do you have any before and after photos of your work? I recently decided to restore old johnson outboards and have another one coming this week. Old made new is an accomplishment. Rick

Just joined this site and enjoy all the knowledge here. I recently have gotten into old 50's johnsons. I kind of like the look to be as they are found but good running. It started when I visited a friend in Va that found a 1957 18 seahorse in a barn which he gave me. All there good compression...
